Types of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing in popularity by the day. Repetitive tasks used to be assigned to robots to save time and improve efficiency. It was also efficient and effective. But with time, man realizes that robots can also make critical decisions and think by themselves. The only thing you should do is make these forms of AI independent and possess the ability to think and learn. Due to the difference in tasks and purpose, artificial intelligence engineers make different types of AI forms. This article will highlight all the types of AI available in the market today. The four types are as explained in this piece of writing.

Reactive Machines

Most reactive AI machines are made for gaming purposes. These machines make critical decisions well, and it turns out it was the best decision one could ever make. That is why these machines win most of their games. Most reactive machines can predict the next best move to make, especially in a gaming situation.

If you have played computer games against computers, you probably have met a reactive machine. If you make a move, the device will play the next possible move. If you choose to reverse the action and create a better movement, the machine will react with a better move. Reactive machines tend to respond to the situation and not stand on a particular decision whether it works or not.

Another quality of reactive machines is the inability to learn neither nor keep the memory. Reactive machines have no excellent memory that aids their future decision-making. That means they do not learn from their previous encounters. Instead, they live the moment and wait for an action to take place before they react with the best possible move.

Limited  Memory

According to govtech.com, this class of AI does more than react to actions. They have a clue about the past and make decisions both based on the efforts made on them and their experience. This means the past influences their choices today. That means these robots make better decisions with time because they consider their previous experiences.

A fine example is a self-driving car. Such vehicles know they are not alone on the roads. For that reason, the study movements of other moving cars. This study takes quite some time, and that is why memory is critical. Once the survey has been done, it will be stored in reserve.

Other than study the other moving cars, these cars record all they come across by the roadside. A road has road signs, diversions, bumps, U-turns, and so many other surprises. A good driver must be aware of these. Similarly, self-driven cars must take note of these for proper functioning. The truth is, studying this cannot happen in a day. That is why the student needs memory to research and store this. Limited memory AI forms facilitate this study. With time, self-driven cars learn how to maneuver through even the most challenging roads and manage speeds on challenging roads.

Once the information has been captured and stored, a self-driven car grows better in decision making. The vehicle can now make better decisions while on the road. Since the vehicle has information about the speeding characteristics of other cars and their behaviors on the road, it can make wiser decisions with time. Besides, the car masters the road usage with time and can move knowing the markings and the challenges the road poses.

Other than the self-driven car example, there are more. One thing that distinguishes limited memory AI forms from reactive AI forms is learning from history. While limited memory forms store experiences and make decisions, reactive forms of AI look like they lack memory and do not learn from previous experiences.

Theory of mind

This is a human thought of the probable behavior of future forms of AI. Machines are made of mechanical parts and processors to guide their decision-making. Still, most of these machines cannot be emotional. As I write this, most AI engineers are working day and night to develop forms of AI that will harbor the ability to be human. Well, it seems impossible at the moment, but only time will tell whether this is doable.

This form of Ai is hypothetical and still being worked on. With time, we will establish whether it can be a reality. If it comes true, we will have a form of AI to do all things a man can do, including feeling emotions. It will take the effort and genius of a human being to pull a human robot. It is a task almost impossible.

Self-awareness

This will be the epitome of AI. A self-aware robot is unheard of. If one day we get there, then it will be a tremendous human achievement. I believe if we are to get here, then we need Godly abilities. The only self-aware robot we can make is reliant on human programs to carry out the same.

Self-awareness is more than the ability to realize who you are. At the moment, it is safe to say none of the forms of AI are self-aware. Still, if a man puts in effort and creativity, then we can get there. Self-aware robots are complex and almost impossible to make. But with proper research, it is not impossible.

Conclusion

AI is trending at the moment and taking over. As time goes by, man keeps improving on the abilities of the latest forms of AI, and only time will tell whether robots will ever get to the point of self-awareness. There are different forms of AI, and it may take time before we make proper a form of AI with the exact traits of a human being. Meanwhile, we’ll have to rely on the existing conditions, which do well to meet our expectations but still fall short of the ability to replicate all of the human actions.skl, the
