Best audio editing software

If you’re trying to get into audio editing, then you’ve come to the right place. No matter your reasons; a career in music production and editing, or just for creating some sick ringtones for your phone, you’ll definitely need audio editing software. When you have all the recording hardware in place, choosing a good audio editing software, or a digital audio workstation (DAW) can be quite a daunting task. In order to help you figure out where you should invest your time and money, I’ve gone through a number of DAW software and brought out the best 10 I could find; please use this list to decide the right software for your needs.

Adobe Audition

Adobe Audition is probably the best audio editing program on the market. Its workspace is easily customizable and has all the best tools for editing and completing any audio project. Audition has all the features you would expect from a DAW in 2020; multi-track voice recorder, a mixer, and a multitrack digital audio clip editor. It is safe to say that when combined with a proper sound card, Audition gives the user with a complete digital recording studio experience. Also, Audition comes with an Adobe Cloud subscription, which gives you access to tools for editing pictures or videos.

Audition is a great DAW software that offers some unusual features that are impressive, it’s easy to use but has fewer effects, filters, and tools than other products.

Audacity

Audacity is considered the most popular audio editor available because it’s extremely functional and it runs on both Mac and Windows computers. It doesn’t have the best user interface but it makes it easy to find editing tools and its sleek design can speed up the workflow. It also has very functional one-click repair and restores plugins that are easy to use.  Audacity is a great place for beginners to start because it can teach some of the basic editing features for free.

With Audacity, you immediately have full access to all the features; there is no limit to the size or length of your projects and nothing is blocked behind a paywall. Audacity is an awesome DAW whether you play music, podcasts, audiobooks, or any other type of project.

Sound Forge Audio Studio

Sound Forge Audio Studio is another great choice. It has a professional counterpart; Sound Forge Pro which is a bit more expensive. Luckily, the cheaper version still gives you a handful of audio restoration tools, including the ability to scan vinyl records directly into the program, provided you have a vinyl conversion deck. This audio editing software is as basic as they come and it also offers a handful of effects and default effects that you can apply to your audio recordings.

To sum it all up, Sound Forge Studio is a good sound editing software for beginners, but it lacks the editing and restoration features of the best software on this list.

Ocenaudio

Ocenaudio is best described as a powerful but simple audio editor. It’s a lot easier to use than Audacity. It is compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac. It’s not exactly packed with features but it is a great tool for daily audio editing. It has a few real-time effects that should help speed up your work, as you do not need to apply the change, you just have to hover. It also has an extremely accurate selection tool that makes it easier to apply the same effect to multiple sections of the file.

This DAW is the perfect alternative if others like Audacity look a bit daunting. Ocenaudio is growing every day so it could become top-notch software at some point.

Free Audio Editor from FAE Media

This DAW software is a simple tool that makes editing as easy as possible. It is absolutely free and has a number of easy ways to share and convert audio files, even for people who have never used a similar program. It doesn’t have features that help you create and master perfect note recordings or remove background noise, but that’s not what it’s designed for. Its interface consists of simple icons, so its easy to get used to.

Free Audio Editor has no overly outstanding features and it only has the most basic of effects. It’s a basic and easy to use tool for people who are just getting started with DAW programs.

 Ashampoo Music Studio 2018

Ashampoo Music Studio is a complete multimedia editing program. It is nicely designed to be a music audio editor and voice editing software program and includes several additional tools for reading and managing your songs. Ashampoo Music Studio just received a new update that has faster edited audio processing, with an improved visual interface that is more convenient and user-friendly and includes new features like video audio extraction and mixes support to remix your favorite songs.

Acoustica Basic Edition from Acon Digital

This is a complex DAW program that works exceptionally as a music production tool. It allows you to create your own recordings and open files from your computer, import tracks directly from a CD, edit and export them in the format of your choice.

Cockos Reaper

The Reaper is another good DAW that can capture an unlimited amount of audio per session and has a good selection of mixing and mastering accessories. It has great options for repairing or restoring noisy recordings. The bottom line is that Reaper incredibly powerful audio and audio editing program with an extensive list of accessories with an attractive user interface that is infinitely customizable and easy to use.

MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab

MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab is an interesting tool that is most useful when scanning vinyl records and restoring audio tracks. It has a simple and attractive user interface. It also has great options for repairing noisy or damaged files. It’s not the best DAW, but it will get the job done

Hindenburg Pro

Hindenburg Pro is a cross-platform DAW that works with both Windows and macOS. It features a non-destructive, multitrack recording. It offers a large number of effects including compressors, EQs, loudness meters, and support for third party plugins so you can expand your effects-set to the extent of your imagination.
